Dr. Artika Tyner Honored with 2020 History Makers at Home Award

ST. PAUL, Minn. - March 21, 2020 - PRLog -- Dr. Artika Tyner has been named as a recipient of a 2020 History Makers at Home Award. Bestowed by the City of Minneapolis Government Department of Civil Rights and Black Employee Network, it recognizes her work as the founder and director of University of St. Thomas Law's Center on Race, Leadership and Social Justice.

The History Makers at Home Award (http://www.minneapolismn.gov/civilrights/) honors Minnesota African American leaders that are advancing civil rights and removing equality barriers in areas encompassing business, criminal justice, education, economic development, health, housing, and more. Tyner has distinguished herself in multiple ways during her career.

The award-winner is a leader in education and a staunch social justice advocate (https://m.facebook.com/notes/minneapolis-department-of-civil-rights/dr-artika-tyner/2716146975101578/). She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Hamline University with a minor in Conflict Studies. She then earned her law degree from the University of St. Thomas, followed by a Master of Public Policy and Leadership, and a Doctorate in Leadership.

"In many ways, we've become indifferent to being our brother's and sister's keeper," said Tyner. "It's a different challenge to open your eyes and see what others are facing."

She was selected as an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow in 2019. As part of the prestigious program, she and other ACE Fellows from throughout the nation will work to address issues critical to higher education.

Tyner has authored a number of books on leadership. She's developed educational materials for K-12 and graduate students, non-profit organizations, and faith communities. She provides career coaching for young professionals, teaches coursework on topics that include public policy, ethics, and organizational development.
