The National GEM Consortium Announces the Appointment of Tim Archer as Chairman of the Board

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Sept. 9, 2020 - PRLog -- The National GEM Consortium (GEM), one of the premier organizations for the best and brightest underrepresented minority STEM talent in the country, today announced the appointment of Tim Archer as chairman of its board of directors. Archer succeeds Michael Greene, who served as chairman since 2018.

"It has been nothing short of a great honor to have served as the chair of GEM over the past few years and to have been a board member for a number of years before that. I have had the privilege of a front row seat to watch the evolution of the organization into what can only be described as a best in class non-profit," said Greene.

Tim Archer is the president and chief executive officer of Lam Research, a global supplier of innovative wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry. Nearly every advanced chip is built with Lam technology. Prior to becoming the company's CEO, Archer played a key role in leading the company through transformational growth as the president and chief operating officer.

Archer drives the strategic agenda for Lam Research by engaging with a broad set of stakeholders including customers, employees, suppliers, investors and government leaders. With more than three decades in the semiconductor industry, he has both deep technical expertise and broad leadership experience driving business and operational priorities at leading technology companies.

"Lam shares GEM's belief that greater diversity amplifies the technology industry's positive impact on our communities," said Archer. "I have seen first-hand the energy and dedication that GEM fellows and interns have brought to Lam. Partnering with GEM is about opening doors for the next generation, while advancing innovation within the semiconductor and technology industries."

Brennon Marcano, CEO of The National GEM Consortium, echoed those comments as well. "Under the leadership of Michael Greene, GEM has been able to make significant strides and we are forever grateful to Michael for that. There is, however, no intention to slow down as an organization, and I can think of nobody better to help us shift into an even higher gear than Tim Archer. I look forward to working and strategizing with him."
