The Chris Gray Memorial Celebrity Football Match

LUTTERWORTH, U.K. - June 29, 2021 - PRLog -- Fundraising Football team Celeb FC were contacted in February by Dan Exton, a lad from Leicester who explained his friend Chris's story & how those left behind always try to honour his memory each year, with a fundraising event.

Celeb FC were of course eager to be involved, especially as this year the proceeds will be split between a number of groups, all working to prevent child poverty in the Leicestershire area.

Dan Exton who has put this match on to honour his friend Chris Gray has said

"Chris & I grew up together, we played together, spent time together, he was my best friend & Helen Chris's mum was like my mum.  Chris was always interested in the army & that was proudly his choice of career. 2 weeks before he left for Afghanistan we went out for beers in Coalville. I remember that very clearly. On April 13th 2007 Chris was shot and killed in Afghanistan by the Taliban.

Ever since this tragedy, we have tried to do a football tournament each year in Chris's honour. We aim to get all his friends together, in a fun way, where Chris's family share stories & we all laugh & cry together.

Chris was a true hero. All of his family will be in attendance, including his mum Helen, dad Paul, sister Katie & brothers Liam and Nathan, as well as his much loved nan Rosemary.

Chris's story is online & there is also a tv program from the BBC called "Our War" (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01175hg) which can still be watched. This shows the moment Chris was shot & his brave comrades trying to help him.

Celeb FC are incredibly proud to be able to support this event  - along for the day will be a team, including UK Garage Music Legend MC Kie, Big Brother UK Contestant - Marlon Wallen, EastEnders & Dancing on Ice Star - Matt Lapinskas, TV Presenter - Rob Lamarr, Ex-Professional Footballer - Rowan Vine, Actor & Semi-Pro Footballer - Dean Holness, Big Brother UK Winner - Jason Burrill, Miss Surrey 2020-21 & many more.

The event takes place on Sunday July 11th, Lutterworth Athletic Club (https://www.lutterworthathleticfc.com/), Hall Park, Hall Lane, Bitteswell, Leicester, LE17 4LN, from 11am.
Football Match kick-off is 2pm.
Tickets on the gate – Adults – £5.50 & under 16's – £1
