KOSBE Celebrates SBDC Day with PEAK

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - March 16, 2022 - PRLog -- KINGSPORT, TN—Today, at the Kingsport Chamber, local business owners and leaders joined the Kingsport Office of Small Business Development and Entrepreneurship (KOSBE) and PEAK - Kingsport Young Professionals to celebrate young entrepreneurs in honor of SBDC Day and present the RISING STAR Award.

SBDC Day is a national, collective proclamation of the success and impact America's Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) have across the nation in economic development and the small businesses community.

KOSBE TSBDC is affiliated with one of 63 state and regional Small Business Development Center networks that provide free one-on-one consulting to small businesses at nearly 1,000 locations throughout the nation. SBDC clients start a new business every 30 minutes, create a new job every 5 minutes, generate $100,000 in new sales every 7.5 minutes and raise $100,000 in capital every 11.4 minutes. Job growth for SBDC clients is nearly 10 times greater than job growth for average businesses, and SBDC client sales growth is nearly 4 times greater than sales growth for businesses in general.

Today, Taylor's Martial Arts Academy was presented with the Tennessee Small Business Development Centers 2021 Rising Star Award.  KOSBE Executive Director, Aundrea Salyer, said: "Due to great innovation and serious hustling, Taylor's Martial Arts Academy closed the 2020 business year at just one percent less revenue than 2019 (which was one of their best years historically).  Furthermore, Taylor's Martial Arts has led the way in keeping our community's kids and families engaged in a way that is good for their bodies, minds and hearts when the rest of the world was "closed for business" and isolated. Taylor's Martial Arts has grown their student body by 18% in 2021, exceeding 2020 numbers and hitting their maximum capacity.  They have also put all furloughed employees from the pandemic back to work, provided a former instructor a college-approved internship this past summer and hired five additional employees.  These two young entrepreneurs personify the term Rising Star."  Taylor's Martial Arts is 70% co-owned by two brothers, Landon and Chandler Taylor, who are also PEAK young professionals.  Twana Taylor, their mother, owns the remaining 30% equity.
