NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. - Aug. 4, 2022 - PRLog -- MahoganyBooks will celebrate its annual Black Books Matter Day at National Harbor in Prince George's County, Maryland, on August 6, 2022. Black Books Matter Day was proclaimed annually on the first Saturday of August in Prince George's County by Angela Alsobrooks, Prince George's County Executive. Black Books Matter Day was founded in 2021 to recognize the diverse authors of the African diaspora and the readers who support and are empowered by literary works. MahoganyBooks will kick off the celebration on August 5 with a book club discussion with Dolen Perkins-Valdez, author of "Take My Hand." Black Books Matter day will commemorate on August 6 at 1:00 p.m. with a reading of the Black Books Matter Day Proclamation and a specially commissioned poem by author Jason Reynold recognizing the day. There will also be a book signing with Dr. Avis Jones DeWeever, author of "How Exceptional Black Women Lead," at 1:30 p.m. The Prince George's County Memorial Library System will be on hand to distribute library cards to all those interested. Attendees are requested to register (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/black-books-matter-day-2022-...).

"Black Books Matter Day is about ensuring that Black authors and books are recognized for their significant impact on the lives of their readers and society. MahoganyBooks aims to promote reading, writing, and cultural awareness as tools to improve self-esteem, self-love, and, ultimately, our communities. Our goal is to spread this mission and help others establish Black Books Matter Day in their communities," stated Derrick and Ramunda Young, co-owners and co-founders of MahoganyBooks.
