September gives new meaning to SPAM

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Sept. 7, 2022 - PRLog -- According to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), suicide is the 2^nd leading cause of death among people age 10-14 and the 3^rd leading cause of death among people aged 15-24 in the US.  According to the CDC, suicide rates per month in youths 14-18 increased by over 60% from 2009 to 2018, and there were over 2,000 suicides among those same aged youth in 2018. It is clearly a growing national crisis.

Author and educator Tim McCarthy says, "We need to educate our children better emotionally. Many school systems have adopted Social-Emotional Learning to address this and other problems, but parents can take proactive steps before, during, and even after their children's school years."

What can parents do?

Quoting McCarthy, "We need to expand the concept of parenting and education to encompass all 4 Dimensions of the human experience: The Physical, Mental, Emotional, and Spiritual. There are hundreds of activities parents can play with their children to help them become more mature in each of the 4 dimensions, but especially emotional education to help with the rising rates of suicide. Parents can take simple, concrete steps to help their own children become more emotionally secure and less likely to commit suicide."
