Follow on Google News | Thousands of retailers team up with Goodshop to fill the void left by the closure of AmazonSmileBy: Goodshop Fortunately, thousands of other merchants have stepped in to fill the void. They have teamed up with Goodshop.com which, similar to AmazonSmile, donates a percentage of eligible purchases to the shopper's choice of charities. Shoppers at Walmart, Kohl's, Home Depot, Travelocity, Staples and thousands of other stores can now turn these purchases into donations ranging from .5% to 20% for their favorite cause. More than $13 million has been donated thus far. Launched in 2013, AmazonSmile donated 0.5% of eligible purchases to a charity of the shopper's choice. The program has donated over $400 million to U.S. charities and more than $449 million globally. As expressed by thousands of organizations across the country, the closing of this program will have a significant impact on their operations. For example, the Squirrelwood Equine Sanctuary, an animal sanctuary in New York's Hudson Valley that is home to more than 40 horses and other farm animals, tweeted that the nearly $9,400 it has received from Amazon Smile "made a huge difference to us." Ellen Carpenter, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of West Michigan said that somehow they are going to need to make up for the lost donations. "Anytime you lose a piece <of donations> One Goodshop user shared their positive experience: "I've been using both AmazonSmile and Goodshop for a couple of years now. I was able to raise a few dollars with AmazonSmile, but with Goodshop I can raise money with so many more retailers. To date, with Goodshop I've raised over $200 for the American Cancer Society!" https://www.goodshop.com/ End
