MANHATTAN, N.Y. - May 12, 2023 - PRLog -- DKBmed LLC is launching a pair of new educational initiatives that address the needs of pharmacists and clinicians treating patients hospitalized with COVID-19. The two programs, entitled COVID-19: Keeping Up with a Moving Target for Hospital Pharmacists and COVID-19: Treatment Strategies for Hospitalized Patients, are the latest installations in DKBmed's award-winning COVID-19 case-based programming which has reached over 25,000 clinicians.

Since late 2019, COVID-19 has led to 667 million infections and over 6.72 million deaths. Although worldwide uptake of effective vaccines has limited morbidity and mortality associated with COVID-19, the virus and its evolving variants continue to strain healthcare systems. According to the CDC, the 7-day daily average of new hospitalizations from December 28, 2022–January 3, 2023, was 6,519 in the United States. The most prevalent subvariant – XBB.1.5 – appears more transmissible than previous Omicron strains and demonstrates immune evasion properties.

"Over the last three years, researchers and healthcare professionals have made tremendous strides in treating COVID-19," notes Dinora Chinchilla, MD, Health Sciences Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Irvine School of Medicine. "However, we must stay vigilant. It's clear that there has been an uptick in cases and hospitalizations tied to XBB.1.5, and patients can still become seriously ill. Educational initiatives that help us better work as a team to improve patient outcomes are both appreciated and needed."

COVID-19: Keeping Up with a Moving Target for Hospital Pharmacists (https://covid19.dkbmed.com/pharmacists/12-23-22-episode) will target hospital pharmacists, technicians, and other pharmacy decision-makers. Learners will receive bimonthly updates on the latest developments in COVID-19 treatment through three online activities. Pharmacy, hospital, and COVID-19 experts will also deliver supplemental insights to help participants improve their practice.

COVID-19: Treatment Strategies for Hospitalized Patients (https://covid19.dkbmed.com/hospitalists/12-09-22-episode) will offer hospitalists, nurses, ID physicians, pulmonologists, and others who treat patients with COVID-19 in the hospital setting an interactive educational experience. This new installment will feature:
  • A 30-minute enduring activity consisting of a lecture and case detailing a patient's journey through diagnosis, hospitalization, and treatment for COVID-19
  • An expert-led, faculty discussion regarding best practices in the management of COVID-19
  • In-platform quizzes, learner tracking, and additional recommended resources for further reading
