Headache or Migraine? Infographic to Educate Clinicians on Identification and Treatment of Migraine

MANHATTAN, N.Y. - July 19, 2024 - PRLog -- DKBmed, LLC has developed a multipart educational initiative targeted towards health care providers who see patients with migraines and other types of headaches. Entitled Migraine Care: New Pathways in Prevention and Treatment, this education features engaging, interactive infographics.

Migraine is the third most prevalent condition worldwide and affects an estimated 39 million people in the United States. Every 10 seconds, someone visits a clinic reporting with a headache. Clinicians are missing key opportunities to properly diagnose and manage migraines. These missed opportunities may be because medical students receive an average of just three hours of education on headache diagnosis and management, or because most people do not seek care with a headache specialist. With safe and effective medications available to both treat acute migraine headache and prevent migraine, now is time for clinicians to address the overwhelming burden of migraines on their patients.

"Many medical professionals do not know how to distinguish migraine from other types of headaches, and they may not recognize the burden that migraine imposes on the individual," notes Michele Soosai, founder of The Migraine Nurse and Migraine Care patient faculty member. "With the shortage of migraine and headache specialists, people living with migraine are underdiagnosed and undertreated."

Migraine Care: New Pathways in Prevention and Treatment endeavors to help providers address the unmet needs of patients with migraines and features:
  • Two brief interactive modules that cover the burden of migraine, diagnostic criteria, and the safety and efficacy of treatments that treat and prevent migraine, including newer medications that target CGRP.
  • A third infographic module, delivered several months after the core curriculum, will serve as a reminder and moment for reflection for learners. It will detail the program's effect on participants' knowledge, confidence, and competence and summarizes where learners have improved most and still need education

A parallel, patient educational resource launched alongside the clinician education facilitates shared decision-making between care providers and those living with migraine.
