By: Lifetime Montessori school To introduce water and energy-saving principles to preschoolers, LMS takes a creative and fun approach by teaching children where water and energy come from and how to consume them with as little waste as possible. "One of our lessons revolves around the water cycle and how important it is to protect and take care of our water supply and the earth in general." Says Kristin Edwards, Director of LMS. "Part of this lesson includes a little geography, topography, oceanography, health and wellness, gardening and planting, as well as general discussions about the weather and climate. Recently, we ran an experiment to show the importance of drinking clean and safe water where each child poured a glass of clean drinking water. The teacher tainted a glass of water with black paint and went up to each child's glass and poured a little bit of it into each child's glass. The result was a murky glass that they were all disgusted by. The children quickly got the point of what contaminated water which spurred the discussion on how to preserve our water supply." Teaching them early about conserving water and energy helps them become aware.
