Laguna Ocean Foundation To Celebrate 20 Years Of Protecting Laguna Beach Coastline

By: Laguna Ocean Foundation

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. - Oct. 10, 2023 - PRLog -- The Laguna Ocean Foundation is celebrating 20 years of ocean stewardship and outreach on October 26th, 2023 at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point.

It will be an evening of music, food, drinks, ocean education, and opportunities to register for future Laguna Ocean Foundation events and programs.

Highlights of the festivities include a special Commendation by California State Senator, Janet Nguyen, and a presentation by Laguna Beach ocean explorer and celebrated photographer, Rich German, who will share his unique viewpoint of the Laguna Beach shoreline.

"In 2003, the community put out a call for help to protect the Laguna Beach shoreline. A small group of local conservationists heeded that call," says Managing Director Robert Lee. "Since then, we have taught millions of visitors and locals about the unique habitat we have here in Laguna Beach. The rocky shoreline is a precious resource that all of us enjoy and we are so honored to be recognized for the work we've done for coastal research and conservation. There is much more to do!"

The first programs instituted by the foundation were based at Shaw's Cove where a small group of ocean advocates began to protect the tidepools that were being "loved to death" by ocean goers. Since then, the group has expanded to 100+ staff and volunteers.  The expanded Tidewater Docent programs now reach almost 250,000 tidepool explorers a year at 5 different coves in Laguna Beach. The Foundation also runs the annual KelpFest, a free music and arts festival celebrating vital coastal resources and the giant kelp that is the cornerstone of the shoreline.

Tickets for the celebration start at $150 and are available for purchase online at http://bit.ly/LOF20th. (http://bit.ly/LOF20th)  A portion of the proceeds will go to support the programs that are offered and in development by the Foundation.
