Demands Immediate Cease-Fire in GazaThe protest was organized by many organizations including Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) Coalition, The Palestinian Youth Movement, and the American Muslim Alliance and dozens more. They united to emphasize their commitment to peace, justice, and human rights. This protest in Washington, D.C. echoed the global wave of demonstrations sparked by the relentless bombardment of the tiny Gaza Strip, an open air concentration camp housing 2.2 million Palestinians in a tiny strip of land completely sealed off from the world for the past 17 years, and occasionally bombed on a regular basis prior to October 7th, 2023. These ongoing airstrikes have resulted in the tragic loss of nearly 10,000 lives in Gaza, with a significant number of casualties being innocent civilians, including children. The "No cease-fire, no votes" event aims to pressure the Biden administration to stop sending aid to Israel and to support calls for a cease-fire, especially in light of President Biden's recent approval of a $14.3 billion military aid package for Israel. ILIA youth involvement in this historic event aligns with its mission to inspire and nurture responsible youth leaders, empowering them to address community needs through experiential programs, self-initiated projects, and impactful contributions. In this collective effort alongside numerous organizations, ILIA reinforces its commitment to fostering a brighter future for youth in America and around the world. Yara Shoufani, an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement stated "For 75 years, the Palestinians have been facing colonization and military occupation, and in the case of Gaza, it has been an open-air prison due to Israel's blockade. We are making it clear to the U.S. administration that we reject this appalling act and reject Biden's refusal to call for a cease-fire." The No Cease-Fire, No Votes protest in Washington, D.C. has showcased the unity of people from all walks of life, and different backgrounds, standing up for justice and human rights. This protest offers a resounding message of support for the people of Gaza and conveys a firm rejection of violence and oppression.
