All are welcome to come sing or listen to G. F. Handel's Messiah (Part I). Featuring professional soloists and chamber orchestra, led by the UUSWH Director of Music Suzanne Cartreine. Join in singing along to Handel's beloved choruses. Scores are available on loan, but please bring one if you can. Freewill donations gratefully accepted. Local choral singers, lovers of classical and holiday music, young and old – all are welcome to come usher in the holiday season with this festive offering of Part I of George Frederic Handel's Messiah oratorio (which covers the Christmas story.) Handel's best-known and widely loved music comes to life realized by 4 stellar professional soloists, a professional chamber orchestra with organ and harpsichord, and YOU, the audience, standing to sing along on the choruses. (Not a singer? Not a problem! Listeners of all ages are very welcome to come enjoy this seasonal classic.) Entry is free; donations are gratefully accepted. This year's soloists include Sarah Kornfeld, soprano, a classically trained local singer and actress, well-versed in musical theater and opera. Noted for her "rich and mellifluous" "striking" presence (The Arts Fuse), mezzo-soprano Christina English brings musical sensitivity and dramatic commitment to a versatile array of concert, opera, and musical theater stages. The orchestra for the Community Messiah Sing consists of some of Boston's finest free-lancers, including some local instrumental teachers. Violist Leanne Rabesa teaches in the Wellesley Public Schools, and organist Max Holman is Director of Boston Saengerfest Men's Chorus and teaches at Brimmer and May School. Each year, advanced high school students of the orchestra members are invited to join their teachers on stage and play the Hallelujah Chorus to close out the Community Messiah Sing. End
