Support and Empower Elders: Build Safe Spaces with ILIA!

BALTIMORE - Jan. 15, 2024 - PRLog -- In a heartfelt effort to extend its mission of community empowerment, Islamic Leadership Institute of America (ILIA) invites you to rally in support of two elder brothers facing unique challenges in their golden years.

ILIA's latest initiative focuses on two elderly individuals, aged 60 and 70, each navigating distinct struggles and finding refuge in the ILIA dorm, thanks to the community's generosity. One brother faces isolation in a foreign land without knowledge of the local language, while the other, a successful professional, is distancing himself from society. Both seek collective support to regain independence and enhance their quality of life.

While the ILIA dorm traditionally serves youth, the organization recognizes the urgent need to provide a safe haven for individuals aged 55 and above. Housing insecurity among seniors is a widespread issue in the United States, affecting an estimated 4.9 million seniors, including members of the Muslim community. Many homeless Muslim individuals are abused women or widows, seniors, and unaccompanied youth.

ILIA aims to raise $2400 to support the 60-year-old and 70-year-old Muslim elders, covering three months of crucial needs such as life skills development, lodging, utilities, internet access, coaching, and community engagement. The ultimate goal is to empower these elders toward housing self-sufficiency, secure transportation funds, and overall independence.

Donations for this initiative are both zakat-eligible and tax-deductible, providing the community an opportunity to make a tangible impact on the lives of elders.
