The TakeCHARGE Patient Safety Campaign Re-Launches for 2024

WANTAGH, N.Y. - March 25, 2024 - PRLog -- The TakeCHARGE Campaign: 5 Steps to Safer Health Care (https://www.takecharge.care/) returned this month for its fifth year, re-launched to coincide with Patient Safety Awareness Week 2024 (March 10-16).

As last year, the campaign — an initiative of Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy — aims to motivate as many people as possible to take five essential steps that will help improve their chances of safe, successful medical care. The 5 Steps are:

1.    Understand & Complete Your Advance Directives
2.    Keep a Record of Your Medical History & Current Medications
3.    Prepare for Doctor Visits / Make A List of Questions
4.    Prevent Infections / Ask Caregivers to Wash Their Hands
5.    Use an Advocate / Be an Advocate for Others

According to Pulse's President, Ilene Corina, BCPA, "Especially now, as healthcare staff shortages continue, it's up to us as patients, potential patients and families, to take some responsibility for our own safety while receiving care. The TakeCHARGE Campaign provides a structured five-step path anybody can use to improve their health care experience."

Now that the pandemic is mostly in the rear-view mirror, the Campaign is calling for volunteer "ambassadors" who can take the TakeCHARGE message into their communities with live, in-person presentations. (Course structure and materials will be provided.)
