South Shore Food Bank Announces Inaugural Fresh Bite 5K and Citrus Stroll

HINGHAM, Mass. - April 10, 2024 - PRLog -- The South Shore Food Bank, working in partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank to improve food access on the South Shore, help address food equity across towns, and help make fresh options more readily available to families relaying on food pantries to meet their needs, proudly announces the Inaugural Fresh Bite 5K and Citrus Stroll, to benefit families across the South Shore who are battling food insecurity.  The event will take place Saturday, June 15, at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham.

The race begins at 9:30 a.m. after time for yoga and registration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.  In addition to offering a 5K course for runners and walkers, the Citrus Stroll offers a treasure hunt for younger children and others looking to support the event, providing activities for the whole family.

Early bird registration is currently open and available through May 10^th at the reduced rate of $25 for the Fresh Bite 5K.  (Prices increase to $30 from May 11 through June 14, and $35 for walk-up registration on June 15.)  Citrus Stroll registration is $15 for anyone ages 11 and up; anyone 10 and under is free.  A family of four can also register for the Citrus Stroll for $50.

The event aims to raise $30,000 to help alleviate food insecurity throughout the South Shore.  Sponsorship opportunities are still available.  In Massachusetts, one in three people are food insecure.
