WIF Board Member Dr. Maimoona Salim Mentors Jolt Youth Initiative through the L³ Alliance

ABUJA, Nigeria - June 21, 2024 - PRLog -- Wells International Foundation (WIF) Board Member Dr. Maimoona Salim is leading WIF's first mentoring project through the L³ Alliance by working with Jolt Youth Initiative in Uganda. Jolt Youth Initiative is dedicated to prioritizing and empowering young people in Uganda to drive enhanced development outcomes.

As part of her commitment to WIF, and in alignment with her professional activities in sustainable development programs in South Africa and Nigeria, Dr. Salim agreed to mentor Executive Director Dr. Mariam Nabukenya and Jolt Youth's entire 7-person (3 women and 4 men) volunteer staff.  "Mentoring is not just a tool; it's a catalyst that propels growth, ensures sustainability, and fosters consistency," she says.

Jolt Youth Initiative's focus areas span education, health, entrepreneurship, and skill-building through strategic partnerships in multiple districts in Uganda.  Its goal is to elevate youth knowledge and skills in self-efficacy by 50% by 2026.  Its work supports seven of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

During its one year of existence, Jolt Youth has already conducted sessions in five schools and reached more than 5,000 students. By the end of the 6-month mentoring period, it intends to have reached 14,000 students across 24 schools with an extension to engage out-of-school youth for an overall positive impact on approximately 10,000 households and communities.

Topics being covered during the mentoring project include fundraising, human capacity development, and stakeholder relationships.  Evaluations will be conducted monthly, and the impact of the mentoring project will be evaluated after three months.

WIF Founder & CEO Dr. Monique Y. Wells said the following about the project:

"Thanks to our Youth Veterinarian Initiative, which is part of our STEAM Education focus area, we established an advisory relationship with Benard Bagenda, founder of Dogs Love Care Uganda.  Paying this forward, Bagenda introduced us to Dr. Mariam Nabukenya and Jolt Youth.

"We are excited about this new opportunity to serve women, children and youth, and people of African descent through the L³ Alliance (https://wellsinternationalfoundation.org/the-l3-alliance/), our primary Women's Empowerment initiative.  This project is 100% aligned with WIF's mission and vision."
