Catholic Health Training Institute Celebrates 12th Graduation Ceremony

Empowering South Sudan through healthcare education and capacity building

SILVER SPRING, Md. - July 1, 2024 - PRLog -- The Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI), supported by Friends in Solidarity, celebrated its 12th graduation ceremony on June 27, 2024, marking the completion of rigorous training for 42 students who received diplomas in Nursing and Midwifery. This event underscores CHTI's ongoing commitment to addressing the critical healthcare needs in South Sudan by empowering local professionals.

The ceremony, held in Wau, South Sudan, was graced by the State Minister of Health, Dr. Michael Samuel, who praised CHTI's role in strengthening the healthcare system. "I am pleased these graduates will champion quality healthcare provision in the healthcare facilities across the country," said Dr. Michael Samuel.

CHTI was recognized as the best performing School of Nursing and Midwifery in the 2024 National Examination by the South Sudan Ministry of Health.  Fr. Jim Greene, Executive Director of Solidarity with South Sudan, expressed his congratulations through CHTI Acting Principal Sr. Winfred Njuguna, acknowledging the graduates' outstanding performance. Four graduates received special recognition for their top performance in the exams: Atoch Lagor, Annet Pita, Tako Mathew, and Bacilio Martin.

The ceremony culminated with all graduates taking the Florence Nightingale Pledge, vowing to uphold the highest ethical standards in their service to the community. This pledge reflects the dedication and compassion that CHTI instills in its students, preparing them to make a significant impact in a country where healthcare resources are scarce.

The graduation will add 23 nurses and 19 midwives to the pool of area healthcare professionals, a crucial step in building medical capacity and expertise in South Sudan. CHTI's program equips students with the skills necessary to provide high-quality care, directly addressing the shortage of trained healthcare workers in the region. By bolstering local capacity, CHTI is creating a foundation for a more sustainable healthcare system, ensuring that even the most underserved communities have access to essential medical services.
