Sister Mumbi Kigutha CPPS Joins 2024 Nuns on the Bus Initiative

WASHINGTON - July 24, 2024 - PRLog -- The 2024 Nuns on the Bus initiative, led by Network, proudly announced its participants yesterday at a public event at the Capitol. This year's focus is on addressing a number of issues and civic freedom to be healthy, freedom to care for ourselves and our family, and freedom to live on a healthy planet, among others.

Sister Mumbi Kigutha CPPS, President of Friends in Solidarity and renowned for her unwavering commitment to social justice and advocacy, is among the participants. The announcement was made on July 23rd before the Capitol building in Washington, D.C., highlighting the mission and goals of this year's journey. The 2024 "Vote Our Future" tour features cross-country advocacy for multi-issue voting, with stops in 20 cities, urging everyone to ensure "everyone thrives—no exceptions!"

Sister Mũmbi shared her thoughts on the initiative, stating, "Gathered there on the front lawn of the House of Congress, with people of goodwill engaging in transformative social change in their different capacities, I was filled with renewed hope and belief that good always overcomes evil, hope overcomes despair, and joy overcomes sadness. 'I came that you might have life and have it in abundance' means that we are invited to help ensure this abundance of life for all by committing to sharing the earth's bounty equitably. It means that we have to be responsible stewards with whatever is given to us for the good of all."

The Nuns on the Bus initiative will travel from Philadelphia to San Francisco from September 30 to October 18, engaging in impactful discussions and advocacy on pertinent issues. This fall, the nuns and their friends will emphasize the importance of multi-issue voting, encouraging all citizens to consider a broad range of social justice issues, including climate change, when they head to the polls this election season.

Friends in Solidarity, the US partner of Solidarity with South Sudan, felt it was crucial to join this initiative due to the climate crisis and its severe impact on South Sudan. Following the guidance of Pope Francis in his 2015 letter, Laudato Si', which urges everyone to care for the environment and all people, they are committed to this cause. His encyclical, titled "Care for Our Common Home," highlights the need to protect our planet and ensure the well-being of all its inhabitants.
