Follow on Google News | Black History in the making, 120 year-old San AntonioHistoric San Antonio church celebrates completion of interior renovations with a Dedication Ceremony, marking the beginning of a larger upcoming celebration of 120 years anchoring San Antonio's East Side.
By: Greater Corinth Baptist Church Greater Corinth was granted historic designation, alongside 26 other Eastside churches, in 2017. In 2018 the church celebrated the renovations of the Charles Bellinger Mansion, which sits on the campus of Greater Corinth. The church had acquired the building and most of the Bellinger family estate, including the Black newspaper, the San Antonio Register, to Greater Corinth in the late 1940s (per San Antonio Report (https://sanantonioreport.org/ Greater Corinth pastor, Reverend Stanley Sparrow, who's led the congregation for 9 years, has ushered in a number of programs including Children's and Student Ministry, Women's and Men's Guided Study, as well as continued learning and resource sharing opportunities. The church's mission reads: "At GCBC, we are passionate about our mission and continue to do God's work in the city of San Antonio and surrounding communities. For over a century Greater has stood with the main purpose of reaching and teaching people to live a life aligned with Christ." The structures of its campus anchors the east side, rising above private cemeteries of fraternal and religious organizations, and within walking distance to the burial ground of 300 Buffalo Soldiers. Media, nonprofit, and historic register organizations are invited to participate in the Dedication Ceremony, showing your support by sending flowers or showing up in attendance.
