ACTON, U.K. - July 30, 2024 - PRLog -- A former literature lecturer from Devon latest's novel is thriller set in contemporary London. The story is based on The Troubles and the novel introduces readers to a new five-star-rated detective, DCI Rob Martin.

Mark Moore hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow Devonian Agatha Christie, and Arthur Conan Doyle with the introduction of his academic turned detective.

Mark's latest novel, She Lived Unknown, has already racked up a string of five-star reviews since its recent publication.

Readers have described DCI Rob Martin's first case as 'a satisfyingly good thriller', 'cataclysmic' and 'finely wrought, taut and satisfying'.

Reviewer Mark Husson stated: "It'll leave you nicely exhausted."

She Lived Unknown is based on the abduction of psychiatric nurse, Lorraine Watson, from Baker Street station on her regular morning commute.

And it provides the perfect complex case for DCI Rob Martin.

Author Mark, whose favourite novelists include Henry James and Joseph Conrad, explained: "DCI Rob Martin is a skilled researcher and problem solver. A former neuroscientist, he is seconded to the Metropolitan Police to work on unsolved historic cases. His colleagues see him as something of a Sherlock Holmes figure."

"Initially somewhat withdrawn and solitary, as the novel progresses his character blossoms. He is drawn into the case of the disappearance of Lorraine when it becomes clear that she is somehow connected to a cold case from 1974 that he is working upon."

She Lived Unknown is a multi-layered novel with an intricate and fast- moving plot.

"Her disappearance seems a random act, but the missing persons investigation evolves into a multi layered story of a renewed threat to national security from the IRA and to the reputations of many establishment figures, past and present.

Mark's unwavering ability for characterisation and pacing brings the political intrigue surrounding the case to life. And the influence of classic writers has allowed him to provide the complex psychology that most contemporary thrillers fail to achieve.

The father-of-four, who lives on the edge of Dartmoor, added: "Most of the background material is derived from real historical events from 1974 and 1975, so the research, although extensive, was on material that is now in the public domain."

Mark is currently working on his next DCI Rob Martin novel.
