By: Concerned Citizens Of South Central Los Angeles The Beehive is an iconic, Black-owned event venue that celebrates Los Angeles' rich culture, talent, and diversity. The venue will host the premiere of two powerful films that shine a spotlight on the vibrant creative scene and the pressing social issues affecting Los Angeles communities. The event's highlights include: Movie Screening Of Not Without Alonzo – Produced by Noreen McClendon and directed by Professor Timothy Conley, this film explores the origins of West Coast Hip-Hop through the voices of legendary artists like rapper The D.O.C., DJ Yella, Ice Cube, DJ Battlecat, Kurtis Blow, comedian DL Hughley, music producer Arabian Prince, The Poetess, and rap superstars JJ Fad and DJ Cli-N-Tel. A live Q&A session with Noreen McClendon will follow the screening. Movie Screening Of Something About Mother – Directed by Millena Gay and written by Noreen McClendon, this film stars Lydia Cornell, Dawnn Lewis, Cleavon McClendon, and Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs. The film will be followed by a live Q&A session with the director and cast, offering a deep dive into its themes and creative process. This event also serves as a pivotal fundraising opportunity, co-sponsored by CCSCLA and The Sisterhood Alliance Freed & Equity (SAFE) Partnership. The funds raised will support the construction of a transitional home for women returning from prison. This safe haven will provide essential resources, life skills training, and access to mental and physical health services to help these women successfully reintegrate into society.
