By: Foundation for a Drug Free World FL Chapter Per recovered.org, Alcohol Awareness month was established in 1987 with the goal of raising awareness about alcohol abuse and to provide resources to those afflicted with addiction. "The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is all about education and prevention," "According to the 2023 Florida Substance Abuse Study, 20% of middle-school students and 34% of high school students have consumed alcohol," said Fabemoli. Before they reach maturity, the brain of a young person is still developing – alcohol consumption at that stage can impair development. Kids who start drinking before the age of 15 are four times more likely to become alcoholics than those who start at the age of 21. This is why education is key." The Truth About Drugs Program is a drug education program that includes a documentary, public service announcements and booklets covering 14 drugs of choice and general information about what drugs are and what they do. During the month of April, Fabemoli will be focusing her educational efforts on the dangers of alcohol addiction. "The Truth About Alcohol booklet is available from the Center at no charge to educators, civic leaders, volunteers, parents and teens," said Fabemoli. "Visitors can also watch the Truth About Drugs Film." The center is located at 41 N. Fort Harrison Avenue and is open Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 7:00pm and on weekends from 2:00pm to 7:00pm. No appointment is needed.
