EMRI receives the Best e-governance Project by Computer Society of India

Dec. 23, 2008 - PRLog -- Pune: The Computer Society of India (CSI) which is the largest association of information technology professionals in India awarded Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) with the “Best e-governed Project and was selected for Special Jury Award for Outstanding National Effort.  

The CSI has over 30,000 members comprising software developers, scientists, academicians, project managers, CIO's, CTO's and IT vendors, among others. The society has 65 chapters spread across the length and breath of the country. Being closely associated with students, the Society has developed a well-established network of nearly 300 student branches. The purposes of the Society are scientific and educational, directed towards the advancement of the theory and practice of computer science & IT.

The objective of e-Governance initiatives is to improve the reach, make services more transparent and reduce response time with reducing costs. The aim of the CSI - Nihilent e-Governance Awards is to recognize and replicate the successful initiatives of states and organizations in achieving good governance using ICT. And EMRI functions exactly in this manner. With its PPP model EMRI makes the service available to all and also functions in a very transparent manner.

Instituted in 2002, the CSI-Nihilent e-Governance Awards encourage the spectacular efforts by states and organizations in the implementation and development of indigenously developed practices and software in the area of e-Governance that benefit the common citizen. An independent selection committee drawn from the industry, academia and the government adjudicates the awards while the selection process includes on-sit visits by a team of experts to assess project implementation and impact on people benefited by the projects. Being held for the fifth successive year, the awards have received tremendous response in terms of enthusiasm and participation. The awards function is held at the annual CSI convention and is attended by dignitaries from the IT industry, as well as personalities from government and non-government organizations.

With this EMRI is set to become the world’s largest Emergency Response and Research Institution in the World.

Working towards benchmarking with the best in the world EMRI has collaborations with AAPI, AAEMI and NENA, Richmond Ambulance Authority, USA, R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Centre, Stanford University, Singapore Health Services Pvt. Ltd, GEOMED, PHFI, Corporate Hospitals and NGOs in the related service areas. Apart from handling the day-to-day emergencies (medical, police and fire), EMRI has made progress in Emergency Research & Training and offers a 2 year full time  residential Postgraduate Program in Emergency Care (EMT-A)(PGPEC). This program is the first of its kind in India that will deliver the highest quality education and comprehensive training in the field of emergency care services. To ensure continuous improvement and learning EMRI has initiated the six sigma program for improving the process and is working towards the ISO 9001:2000 for process standardization.
