Surflight Theatre presents educational shows in NJ schools

Sept. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- Surflight Theatre has spent the last 5 years developing and presenting theatre for young audiences through ‘Surflight To Go’, a touring educational theatre troupe. The objective of the program is to enhance the lives of school students by broadening their arts education experiences through the magic of live theatre, while addressing New Jersey Department of Education core curriculum requirements in the arts as well as other disciplines.
The company presents 45-minute performances designed to be at the same time entertaining, thought provoking and educational.  5 shows will be available this season, aimed at all age groups, ranging from pre K through high school.

Schoolhouse Rock Live Too! - The creators of Schoolhouse Rock Live! have returned with more of your favorite instructional tunes.  An energetic, colorful, fast-paced musical with zany, loveable characters that just happens to be educational, Grades K - 5

Little Red Ridinghood/Who Is A Stranger - Surflight's Little Red Ridinghood helps young audiences learn how to use good judgment when meeting strangers, while avoiding discrimination. Pre K – 5

Maggie McGee and the Good Character Bandwagon – Young Maggie McGee is sick and tired of rudeness, disrespect, and bad manners!  Armed with her friendly smile and, awesome attitude, Maggie begins her quest to help everybody climb aboard the bandwagon of good character and ride the road to responsibility. Grades K - 5

Project America - The cast invites audiences on a poignant journey through our national holidays that dot our country's calendar, and carefully explains the significance and importance of these days. Grades 4 - 8

Reviving Ophelia - Based on the book by Dr Mary Pipher. This play adapts one of the truly seminal nonfiction books of our time into a gripping story of four teen girls battling the corrosive influence of popular culture and searching for the personal North Star that will guide them home. Grades 7 - 12

Surflight To Go serves as a resource for educators in the region, who have indicated that they sometimes require ways to reinforce lessons other than through recitation, memorization and other traditional teaching methods. Via live storytelling Surflight To-Go is able to reinforce academic lessons or convey concepts such as teamwork, diversity, tolerance and responsibility. The only professional theatre in ocean County, Surflight has been producing "Broadway at the Beach" since 1950. Full scale productions of musicals and plays run from April through December.
