In December 2008, the commission published its report, “World at Risk,” which identified specific recommendations to make the United States safer, more secure and more prepared. During its second year of activity, the commission is working to improve understanding of its findings, and to turn those concrete recommendations into actions. Founded in 2003, The George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute is a nonpartisan “think and do” tank whose mission is to build bridges between theory and practice to advance homeland security through an interdisciplinary approach. By convening domestic and international policymakers and practitioners at all levels of government, the private and non-profit sectors, and academia, the institute creates innovative strategies and solutions to current and future threats to the nation. The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs is one of the world's leading schools of international affairs. Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., its mission is to educate the next generation of international leaders, conduct research that advances understanding of important global issues and engage the policy community in the United States and around the world.
