By: Cook & Schmid support of Rebuilding Together San Diego’s (RTSD) “Safe at Home Program” with a $15,000 contribution to help elderly and disabled homeowners living in San Diego with a means to receive minor home repairs that will keep them safe and secure in their home. Rebuilding Together San Diego’s Safe at Home Program addresses the minor “honey-do” list of home repairs, including energy-efficient upgrades in order to conserve water and electricity while cutting costs, and install simple American Disabilities Act modifications to support independent living and fall prevention. Repairs are made by RTSD’s handyman and/or by a trained team of volunteers. “Thanks to the generosity of SDG&E we will be able to assist 70-100 elderly and disabled homeowners in 2010,” said Pamela Thorsch, executive director of RTSD. “Our charitable organization and the low-income homeowners we serve reap an enormous benefit from the collaborative efforts of community-minded corporations such as SDG&E.” The Safe at Home Program also works together with the efforts of SDG&E’s Energy Team to help these elderly residents make their homes more energy efficient. “When homes are more energy efficient they save the customer money on their energy bills and that is how SDG&E’s Energy Team helps these seniors,” said Mark Gaines, director of customer programs for SDG&E. “The impact of our joint efforts with the Safe at Home Program will result in meeting the needs of those who are unable to help themselves with their minor home repairs.” Rebuilding Together San Diego is a local non-profit dedicated to the renovation and preservation of affordable homeownership for low-income families throughout our community.
