March 9, 2010 - PRLog -- Following recent trips to restaurant conventions in Ireland and in the USA, Andy Tierney reveals why restaurants close and what to do about it, if caught in time.

The industry in Ireland is currently on its knees and Restaurant Owners are looking for solutions to reduced footfall, static costs and regulation compliance. But there is some hope.

The problems being faced in Ireland have also been felt further afield in the US and in Europe. According to Andy the top five reasons for closure are:
"1. Poor Cash flow - Now this is linked directly to footfall but also includes daily cash management and planning of resources.
2. Theft by staff - underestimated by many and often undetected for long periods, it happens and it is happening today.
3. Poor Customer Service - When people visit your establishment and experience poor service, there is a high probability that they will not complain - they will just not return - and thats worse. But this is Ireland and thats what we do!
4. Poor Bookkeeping - Again, often ignored and badly done until its too late. In any business, with high staff and VAT, it has to be managed weekly with excellent financial reporting available at all times for the owner/manager.
5. Lack of originality - so the product offering fails to impress. This is common and is often masked by good service or location. "

Andy Tierney claims that because so many of the above reasons fall within the control of the business owner, that there is great scope for the industry.

"To control some of the factors above need not cost the business owner anything, to impact them all may require some investment but the payback is immediate"

"When we implement proper control systems into restaurants, the owners are suddenly in charge again, there is accountability and increased productivity" added Andy.
