Chapman Chrysler Jeep News: Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 hotrod to live on in 2011

With the big push for hybrids and extreme fuel efficiency these days, it seems that the SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee will live on.  For 2011 Chrysler has totally restyled the aging old look along with adding new amenities and features that should give the all-new Jeep a better stance when compared to its competition.  

Car and Driver reports:
"We just had the opportunity to ask the Jeep crew about the possibility of a second-gen Grand Cherokee SRT8, and while they won't officially confirm—or, more important, deny—anything, they did allow that when Chrysler creates an SRT version of a new product, you can generally expect it to appear within the first couple of model years after introduction. We'd call that pretty solid confirmation that America will once again be pumping out bad-ass SUVs within the next couple of years."

The second-generation 2011 Grand Cherokee SRT8 will most likely have a V8 like the previous generation, boasting between 505 and 525 horsepower.  The first generation Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 may not has sold over top of the standard less powerful models, but sales were worthy of maintaining the vehicle.  

It is rather interesting to see that Chrysler is still pushing strong with its performance-centric line of vehicles with the current green movements and price of gas and oil most likely going up not down soon.  Chrysler, as a brand, made it's name and has a large fan base because of the performance vehicles that it produced in the 1960's and 1970's, so keeping the performance line around might be essential to branding, over Chrysler's rather mundane average passenger vehicles.
