Cycling Is The Way To Meet Councils' Targets

Pennine Events, which organises cycling events for many councils across the UK, has re-launched its website to provide a better showcase to local authorities of the benefits of hosting cycling events.

May 5, 2010 - PRLog -- The company wants to show how the events it organises on behalf of councils can help authorities meet their statutory obligations relating to health, tourism, the environment and regeneration.
The company, which regularly organises events for councils such as Pendle, Wyre, Cornwall, Bradford, Sefton, Blackburn with Darwen, Lancashire County, and Liverpool, believes that cycling events have a wide range of benefits for councils both in the short and longer term.
Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events, explains: “Despite the difficult economic climate, we are still finding that local authorities want to host cycling events as a way of engaging with their communities and helping to meet their statutory obligations such as promoting healthy lifestyles or encouraging more visitors to come to some of their towns and cities.
“Time and time again, cycling events bring in thousands of people – many of whom have never really had an interest in cycling before but still come along. There is also evidence that the spectators have a multiplier effect as well, in terms of extra spending in shops, pubs and restaurants, and even revisiting these places at a later date.”
The company, based in Bamber Bridge in Lancashire, is now offering videos and photographs of events on its new website to help highlight the events they organise for councils.

The company is currently undertaking a series of road shows on behalf of Lancashire County Council to promote cycling across numerous towns in Lancashire.

It is also organising, on behalf of Pendle Council, the cottages4u Pendle Cycle Fest. This  includes the National Road Race Championships which will feature some of the world’s best riders such as Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins and riders from Team Sky on the weekend of 26th and 27th June.
