Evening walks raises £30,000 for cancer charity

Nov. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- The Night of Neon 2010 was a 10k mass participation walk, taking place on Saturday 23rd October, starting and finishing in Salford Quays, on the outskirts of Manchester.
More than £30,000 was raised for The Christie - one of the leading cancer centres in Europe which treats about 40,000 patients every year.
Participants dressed in neon clothing as they undertook the evening walk and the route was lined with entertainment groups to motivate and inspire the ‘neon army’.
Two of Coronation Street’s actors, Michelle Keegan, who plays Tina McIntyre, and Julie Haworth, who plays Claire Peacock, attended and spent time with the participants.
Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events, which organised the event, said: “There was a great buzz amongst participants and a bit of a carnival atmosphere with live bands, spectacular fire and dance acts and unique comedy performers entertaining participants and spectators.”
“People appeared to enjoy themselves and raised more valuable funds for a very important charity to thousands of cancer patients in the North of England.”
