Follow on Google News | Evening walks raises £30,000 for cancer charityPennine Events help raise more than £30,000 from evening walk for Christie’s More than 300 members of the public took part in a colourful, lively evening 10k walk recently for cancer charity The Christie in Manchester, organised by Pennine Events.
More than £30,000 was raised for The Christie - one of the leading cancer centres in Europe which treats about 40,000 patients every year. Participants dressed in neon clothing as they undertook the evening walk and the route was lined with entertainment groups to motivate and inspire the ‘neon army’. Two of Coronation Street’s actors, Michelle Keegan, who plays Tina McIntyre, and Julie Haworth, who plays Claire Peacock, attended and spent time with the participants. Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events, which organised the event, said: “There was a great buzz amongst participants and a bit of a carnival atmosphere with live bands, spectacular fire and dance acts and unique comedy performers entertaining participants and spectators.” “People appeared to enjoy themselves and raised more valuable funds for a very important charity to thousands of cancer patients in the North of England.” For further information about Pennine Events, please visit http://www.pennineevents.co.uk/ -ENDS- Caption: Corrie stars Julie Haworth (far left) and Michelle Keegan (back middle) are pictured with some of the cheerleaders and participants at the Night of Neon evening charity walk Notes to Editors: Pennine Events specialises in organising sports, leisure, and health events, for councils, charities, health authorities and private companies, across the country.
