Follow on Google News | Academy at Sisters Boarding School for Girls Win at Oregon State EnvirothonThe Academy at Sisters boarding school for girls competed and won a component of the 2010 Oregon Envirothon competition.
By: Academy at Sisters The Academy team trained and competed in the areas of Aquatic Ecology, Forest Ecology, Soils and Land Use, and Wildlife Ecology For the girls, the many hours of training paid off. Out of 30 schools competing, the Academy’s team came in 1st in the Geocaching activity, 3rd for their formal presentation and 9th place overall. According to Jessie Russell, who helped facilitate the team, “Our students have gained so much from this experience. I have seen an increase in their confidence as learners. They believe they can prepare for anything they want to be a part of and come out successful.” Brittney, an Academy at Sisters team member, commented, “I didn’t know I could do this well. This is the type of learning I need.” Despite a long and exhausting day, the girls had fun and were extremely proud of themselves. They received accolades from the workers at the competition as well as from their co-competitors.
