Bike rides raise £65,000 for charity

June 30, 2010 - PRLog -- More than 525 members of the public rode either 13 or 26 miles around North Lanarkshire countryside in Scotland from Drumpellier Country Park for the Leukaemia Glasgow Bikeathon.

In The Beach to Beach Bike Ride from Bournemouth to Brighton 100 members of the public rode 130 miles including an overnight stop.

These riders braved unseasonally cold and windy weather on their journey but also enjoyed going through the New Forest, riding alongside the famous ponies, through lovely quiet lanes, picturesque villages and countryside after leaving the coast in Bournemouth, and then overcoming the hills of the South Downs with a steely determination.

Pennine Events Limited, one of the country’s leading organisers of cycling events for charities, councils and health authorities, organised the event called Leukaemia Glasgow Bikeathon.

Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events, said: “We regularly work with national charities to help them raise valuable funds through cycling events. It’s very touching that people will get on their bikes and test themselves physically over significant distances in order to raise money for their favourite charities.”

Pennine Events is currently organising three other major cycling events for charities this summer:

1.   Right to Play Brussels to London Cycle Ride - between 4th and 7th July - for the international charity Right to Play that helps youngsters in poor regions of the world enjoy sport and leisure;
2.   The Christie Hospital Mystery Bike Ride – a two-day bike over 31st July and 1st August across Greater Manchester and surrounding counties to a mystery destination with overnight camp and entertainment; and
3.   A series of five female-only cycling events called Pedal It Pink to raise money for  Breast Cancer Campaign.
