Richmond Hood Company Kicks Off Shaolin’s 2nd Annual Skatedown In Stapletown

July 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Richmond Hood Company (RHC), a boutique Staten Island, New York based urban action sports and lifestyle shop celebrates "Van Duzer Summer Streets” with its 2nd Annual Skatedown in Stapletown, an initiative powered by MetroPCS that transforms Staten Island's historic Van Duzer Street into a skateboarders paradise. A fun-filled afternoon that seamlessly integrates Staten Island’s growing skateboarding community with local entertainers and artists by shutting down the streets and allowing residents to walk, dance and skateboard. The skateboard event which features a free jam format competition kicks off at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Van Duzer Street between Beach and Wright Streets. Pre-registration begins at 2:00pm.

“Van Duzer Summer Streets” is a NYC Department of Transportation “Weekend Walks” pedestrian program that provides healthy recreation space for local Staten Island, NY residents to enjoy fresh outdoor activities. Skateboarding is one of the most popular forms of short distance transportation which not only serves as an eco-friendly alternative to getting around your town but promotes a healthier lifestyle.  

“Our goal with Skatedown in Stapletown, is to support Staten Island’s skating community by providing local skateboarders dedicated space to trick-out, hone their skills and celebrate their unique talents”, explained Tariq Nafis Zaid, co-owner of Richmond Hood Company. This year’s event will be hosted and judged by Brian Saul, Shaolin’s very own pro skateboarder who will also provide demonstrations which include Freestyle, Manual, Flip tricks, among others. The afternoon opens up with an open qualifier, where winners move on to the semi-finals and those winners advance to the final round in the early evening for chances to win prizes ranging from t-shirts and sneakers to skateboard decks, sponsored by event partners MetroPCS and 5Boro Skateboards.

Skaters of all ages and competitive levels are invited to skate down and showcase their talent. Hardcore boarders from all five boroughs are encouraged to join in the afternoon festivities. It’s only a 15 minute cruise on your skateboard from the Staten Island ferry. So HURRY UP and come ROCK OUT! Afternoon tricks are scheduled as follows:

•   4:00pm - 5:00pm   Ledge Contest
•   5:00pm - 6:00pm   High Ollie Contest
