Nov. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- In an effort to combat hunger this holiday season, Against Da’ Grain (ADG), a Staten Island, New York based barber shop chain and Richmond Hood Company (RHC), a boutique urban action sports and lifestyle shop, have joined forces with Grammy award winning hip-hop artists Redman and Method Man to launch its first annual “No Jive Turkey Day”, powered by MetroPCS. Families struggling to make ends meet are invited to stop by Our Lady of Council Church, 10 Austin Place in Staten Island, New York on Saturday, November 20, 2010 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, to pick up their “No Jive Turkey Day” meal bags.

The ADG and RHC teams will be on hand, rolling up their sleeves alongside today’s most influential celebrities to provide local struggling families with key essential items needed to prepare a warm, nutritious and memorable Thanksgiving Day meal. “According to recent data released by the U.S. Census Bureau, the median income of families in New York City has declined and the number of people in poverty is soaring. Parents in our very own communities are challenged with providing hearty & nutritious meals for their families”, explained Danny Reyes, co-owner of Against Da’ Grain.

Community residents are also being urged to join in the fight against hunger, by donating two (2) or more non-perishable food items at any of the ADG and RHC drop off locations listed below, beginning Saturday, November 13, 2010 through Friday, November 19, 2010 and receive 10% off their next service. “We realize that this turbulent economy has affected everyone. Food pantries are being over exhausted and are no longer just feeding the homeless. Today they serve low, working and middle-income family’s alike”, shared Tony Wisniewski, Indirect Channel, Social Marketing and Digital for MetroPCS New York Marketing Region.
