Dec. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- Kathy Landess, Executive Veterans Affairs Director/Tribal Liaison and National Vice President for the SSFOA stated:  "We are so excited about this.  This is a prime example of what enthusiastic, dedicated individuals (all volunteers) can do when they join for a common goal.  Our volunteers have donated over 96,000 hours which equates to over $1.9M alone.  We are very proud of this accomplishment and everyone who was involved with this."

SSFOA's mission is to honor and support our veterans who were wounded, were injured or have an illness which originated in a combat zone.  This includes all branches of military service and all wars/conflicts.

Landess continued:  "Our mission is carried forward through our many programs.  Of course, our main program is presenting of the Silver Star Service Banner and Certificate to those who qualify.  Then there is our Letter Writing Team.  These folks send cards, letters to deployed troops, wounded warriors in military hospitals and veterans in VA facilities.  Just in the first 10 months of 2010, our members, their family members and associates sent out over 8,000 cards and letters.

Through grant money we received from the PepsiRefreshesEverything, we instituted a new program called Tunes for Troops.  This program was able to provide a thousand of $5 downloadable music cards to PolyTrauma patients.  For these veterans, music goes far beyond a form of entertainment ... it helps to soothe and heal.  Another music based program and our President's Project is WHAM (Wounded Heroes and Music) which provides donated iPods or MP3 players to those wounded warriors and veterans who need them.  Another great program we have is our Hospice program which provides Prayer Blankets to those veterans who request them and Beanie Babies for the children/grandchildren of the veteran.  The impact that this program has on every life it touches is priceless."

Along with the many programs that SSFOA has, they also support our wounded warriors and veterans through advocacy.  Educating the general public as well as family members of our wounded warriors and veterans about the special circumstances they face is key.  SSFOA also provides information and written testimony to Congress on a regular basis.

"Our pledge is:  'We will never forget.'  We will not leave anybody behind.  SSFOA is here for our veterans until they leave us for their final post."  Landess concluded.
