The students who achieved 1st or 2nd will complete in the State Meet later this month at TCU. Worth. These students qualified for the PSIA State Meets by placing first or second individually in one or more contests at the PSIA District Meet held at 27 area tournaments. ABOUT PSIA The purpose of the PSIA academic program is to use competition to further develop students’ higher order thinking skills. “‘Inspiring student achievement through academic competition’ Director. “In addition, PSIA serves to honor and reward academic achievements, while ensuring that the overall purposes of the program are to use competition as a tool in the preparation of students for citizenship and successful adulthood, and to provide incentive to excel in academics.” Eight scholarship awards, ranging from $100 to $1500, were presented to worthy 8th grade students in 2010 through the PSIA scholarship program. If donations are sufficient, scholarships ranging from $100 to $1500 will be awarded in May, 2011. Celebrating its 13th year as a non-profit 501(c)(3) service organization for private schools, PSIA serves 255 member schools this year and continues to provide the most comprehensive academic extracurricular program in the nation for privately-schooled students in grades 1-8, offering 19 contests, with awards in 59 grade-level events. Contests include a wide spectrum of advanced curricula in mathematics, science, social studies, listening, reading, vocabulary, speaking, writing, art, music and drama. Approximately 48,000 privately-schooled students throughout Texas, including homeschooled children and public charter schools, are currently being served through membership in the PSIA program.
