ABOUT THE PSIA STATE MEET:
Approximately 2,700 students from across Texas have qualified for the 2011 Private
Schools Interscholastic Association Academic State Meets to be held at Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth. These students qualified for the PSIA State Meets by placing first or second individually in one or more contests at the PSIA District Meet held at 27 area tournaments.

ABOUT PSIA
The purpose of the PSIA academic program is to use competition to further develop
students’ higher order thinking skills. “‘Inspiring student achievement through academic
competition’ remains our primary goal,” said Dr. Patricia Walters, PSIA Executive
Director. “In addition, PSIA serves to honor and reward academic achievements, while
ensuring that the overall purposes of the program are to use competition as a tool in the
preparation of students for citizenship and successful adulthood, and to provide incentive
to excel in academics.” Eight scholarship awards, ranging from $100 to $1500,
were presented to worthy 8th grade students in 2010 through the PSIA scholarship
program. If donations are sufficient, scholarships ranging from $100 to $1500 will
be awarded in May, 2011.

Celebrating its 13th year as a non-profit 501(c)(3) service organization for private
schools, PSIA serves 255 member schools this year and continues to provide the most
comprehensive academic extracurricular program in the nation for privately-schooled
students in grades 1-8, offering 19 contests, with awards in 59 grade-level events.
Contests include a wide spectrum of advanced curricula in mathematics, science, social
studies, listening, reading, vocabulary, speaking, writing, art, music and drama.

Approximately 48,000 privately-schooled students throughout Texas, including homeschooled
children and public charter schools, are currently being served through membership
in the PSIA program. With more than 250 private schools in the program this
year, the growth challenge continues.
