Students Captivated by Vocational Programs

400 Students at Pantego Christian Academy enjoyed the first in a series of enrichment programs focusing on careers in missions, public service, business, medical, construction, and technology.

Sept. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- In the first session in a new series of enrichment programs targeting vocations, secondary students at Pantego Christian Academy unanimously voiced their approval.

Pantego Christian Academy, located in Arlington, Texas is hosting a total of three sessions in the fall and four in the spring semester.  The goal of this series is to expose students to an assortment of careers.  Speakers relate about their passion in their vocation, their upbringing leading them to this field, the type of preparation that was required, the ups and downs that have been experienced, and the satisfaction that has come from that vocation.  Speakers also let the students know how the Lord has been involved in the experience.

In the first session nearly 400 secondary students divided themselves into 6 vocational areas:
Missions – Ron Blue and his wife, PCA Spanish teacher Libby, humorously told of their calling to mission work as a couple and how it has led to stops throughout Latin America and Spain.  Ron explained how he currently trains Dallas Theological Seminary pastors for world ministry.
Public Service – Pantego Fire Chief Tom Griffin told of the training and experiences that led him to his current position along with some of the rewarding and challenging situations he has faced.
Business - Jay Miller, Texas Ranger Senior Vice President over stadium operations told of the Lord’s provision on his life as he worked his way up from being at the bottom in minor league venues to his relationship with Nolan Ryan that brought him to Arlington.
Medical – PCA parent Dr. Angela Mitchell told of the manner in which she was led into the field of psychology and the way the Lord has used her as she teaches college students and deals with patients in her private practice.
Construction – PCA parents Tim and Jett Lamun gave a very interesting account of flipping houses, the complexity of buying them, renovating them to sell, and the wait for buyers and how the market affects them.
Technology – Former PCA student, Matt Sneed talked about the trends in the way that businesses communicate and the challenges that they have in reaching their target audience in the most efficient and novel ways.

Pantego Christian Academy is seeking additional speakers for upcoming sessions.  Those interested in sharing their passion for their career with students at PCA can contact Dean of Student Life, Dave Emler at demler@pantego.com.
