By: Tokiwa T. Smith Yuri’s Night is a global celebration that celebrates the anniversary of human spaceflight. Yuri Garagin was the first human to journey into outer space. On April 12, 1961 his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of earth. It is a worldwide celebration that advances advocacy and development of space exploration and scientific discovery. “It was such an honor for SEM Link to be a part of a global event to expose kids to STEM” says Executive Director and Founder Ms. Tokiwa T. Smith “We had a blast engaging the attendees in hands on chemistry activities along with all the other exhibitors that participated in the event”. SEM Link has a two-core program model, Experimental Design Program and Math and Science Career Academy, that provide students with opportunities to develop their math and science skills by enhancing the classroom learning experience and teaching them skills that are transferable to other areas of life. Since its inception SEM Link has enhanced educational experiences for over 1000 Metro Atlanta youth through hands on math and science activities, career exploration and exposure to real world applications of math and science.
