Follow on Google News | The CreAtive Sparx Fly in McCall – July 18-25The CreAtive Sparx will be flying in Idaho during McCall's 100th Anniversary week July 18-25. The new McCall Art + Commerce Center is hosting an 8 day event featuring Art Workshops, gallery show, lectures and several events for art collectors.
By: Debbie McClendon The CreAtive Sparx Idaho artists include sculptor Ken Newman, jeweler Donna Armstrong, painter Debra Facchin of Whirling Circle Studios and potter Cindy Leavitt. The group will host painter Whitney Peckman and fused glass artist Syed Ahmad, both from Salisbury NC. The Creative Sparx is a collaborated spin off of the Northwest Salon artists from the Celebration of Fine Art in Scottsdale, Arizona. This dedicated group of artists travel to promote and sell their art throughout the year. In addition to the artists from Idaho, Whitney and Syed are working artists who bring over 40 years of experience in the art business. They recent renovated an old bakery in Salisbury NC, creating East Square Artworks. The building includes gallery/event space, living and workspace for several artists, very similar to the Art + Commerce Center concept. After their week in McCall, Whitney and Syed will be heading on to Bellevue Art Festival in Washington before heading back east. Cambridge sculptor Ken Newman is excited to be involved in the CreAtive Sparx week. "As an artist who has embraced a broader footprint, travel has been an important part of my artistic journey over the past 10 years, meeting other artists with similar journeys and sharing their art with Idaho is exciting. Whitney's work is full of color and texture with diverse subjects – Syed's fused glass reaches new heights as he expands the depth, breadth and size of his work using nature as his inspiration. All of us are looking forward to spending an extended time in McCall bringing Idaho the CreAtive Sparx, celebrating McCall's 100th Birthday and participating in Charlie's Garden, a benefit for the Art and Humanities Council. A special thank you to Dave and Donna Armstrong for allowing us to host the events at their new center! It’s a perfect venue and we appreciate their support of the arts in McCall." If you are interested in attending the workshops check out the NW Salon website for details http://www.nwsalon.com or call Donna Armstrong at 208 634-5556. Several scholarships will be awarded to Idaho college students and if you are a member of MAC – (the McCall Artist Connection) special discounts are available at many of the workshops.
