Veracity announced as finalist in two categories for the 2011 Security Excellence Awards

Sept. 19, 2011 - PRLog -- Veracity will be competing as a finalist in two of the eighteen categories announced by the organisers of the 13th Security Excellence Awards, to be held in the prestigious Grand Ball Room at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Wednesday 19th October.  

In both finalist categories, Veracity has been recognised for its COLDSTORE video surveillance storage system.  COLDSTORE has already won the 2010 Detektor International ‘Innovative Achievement’ award. The judges of this award concluded that COLDSTORE used ‘an ingenious method of writing to disks means that no data are lost if a disk fails, yet no rebuilds are required.’ COLDSTORE was all credited with the ‘2010 European Digital Video Surveillance Storage System Technology Innovation Award’ from globally-recognised industry analyst house Frost & Sullivan.

COLDSTORE is a network attached storage array (NAS) which can store up to 45 Terabytes of surveillance data across 15 disk drives and overcomes the reliability, data accessibility and power usage problems associated with traditional RAID 5 storage solutions.  

COLDSTORE acknowledges the sequential nature of surveillance video data which is fundamentally different to normal data flows. Using patented LAID™ and SFS™ technologies, data is written sequentially to each disk drive in turn, moving the drive read/write head from the outside to the centre of the disk in a movement similar to a record player, to minimise wear and vibration.  

Video is recorded onto the array using a unique overlapping-pair disk writing pattern, assuring resilience, yet minimising numbers of disks required. Normal playback of evidential download runs over the network and is augmented by the option of instant seizure of massive evidential data volumes simply by physical disk removal.

COLDSTORE minimises its impact on the environment. Electricity consumption is just 40 Watts and the unit is cool to touch reducing the need for external cooling.
