The shooting occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. at Holbrook and Brush. Witnesses state that Moe was an innocent bystander and not an intended target.
By: john motyka Moe was a local musician who was well known in the Detroit scene and performed with some of the top Rock and Blues entertainers including Dale Robertson, Bennie Reeves, Thornetta Davis, C.C. Collins, and Mitch Ryders guitarist Chris Brantly. His tenor blues vocals are legendary in venues throughout Metro Detroit. He motivated others around him with a compassionate loving energy. He often sang at the Salvation Army Gospel Choir and performed work with Fr. Ray at The Capuchin Soup Kitchen. His monniker was his gentle warm smile and hug. His rigorous schedule consisted of 7 night a week performances. Sometimes several venues in one day. He was considered a musical genius who played guitar, piano, and vocals. He will be best remmembered for writing and singing "Raining in Detroit, These Four Walls, and Why Cant I Cry". He was laid to rest on October 9th at Jurkiewicz and Wilk Funeral Home. His Funeral took place at St. Florian Church in Hamtramck on October 10th. Hundreds paid tribute. Mr. Wilk the FUneral Director stated that "this was the saddest funeral I have seen in 30 plus years". # # # The next time you hug someone remember Brian "Moe Motyka because it was his way to say everything is going to be allright.
