Nov. 2, 2011 - PRLog -- There are not “virtual doors” but real, old and forgotten doors of houses, shops and spaces that were abandoned and had deteriorated. Now they are gaining new life to sensitize the people visiting these spaces with a vibrant introduction to Madeira’s art and culture. The current interventions (an interaction with a previously existing artwork, audience, or venue/space)  cover all of the audiovisual art; Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Video Art and Music.

However, it is an intervention that aims to not be associated with acts of vandalism or a break with the everyday life of the city. Although every artist has created something innovative, a”break” from the norm – this is part of a “call to attention” carrying out a work of art for the public to see. This project aims to be the seed of continued future artistic performances on different elements of the deteriorated parts of the old city.

Also, a future “School of the Arts” shall be located in one of these abandoned buildings that will be lovingly restored and function as a learning centre where there will be workshops on all the artistic disciplines: painting, sculpture, theater, music, photography, sculpture …

The Project (Projecto artE de pORtas abErtas) has been designed by Jose Maria Montero Zyberchema and was presented on August 20, 2010 at Pecha Kucha.

The project also received a friendly “push” from João Carlos Abreu, who is a formidable driving force of projects to revitalize the Old Town (Zona Velha) of Funchal.

The first intervention was made by Martin Mendes on August 20, 2010 at Rua da Carreira, No. 207.

Today, many doors have been wonderfully brought back to life and the new portal which was recently launched now features many of the works of art and the artists involved in this rejuvenating project.

TheWeb Portal was developed by Navega Bem – Web Design, a full service digital marketing, development and web design agency based on Madeira island.

The project has also been sponsored by the Funchal City Council (Câmara Municipal de Funchal) which provided all the paints for the participating artists and Acontece Madeira, a non-profit portal dedicated to presenting all public events on the Madeira islands.
