Austin Reed Heading To Texas This Weekend

18-year old honors student Austin Reed set to take SAT's on Saturday then travel to Texas for big Legends Car race that is part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday.

Nov. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- 18-year old Austin Reed of Bakersfield, driver of the K&N Filters/Approved Memory sponsored Semi-Pro Legends car,  posted a fourth place finish this past weekend at the USLCI Legend Car Nationals held at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The event pitted the the best of the best from throughout the country in a championship racing spectacular.

Reed, by virtue of his California state Legends championship, competed in the Race of Champions to start the weekend. He paced the field for 15-laps and held on to finish second in the all-star event.

On Saturday, the stout field of competitors was whittled down to 24-starters for the 30-lap feature event on the 3/8-mile banked oval. Reed was among the fastest throughout the race but he lost his clutch early in the event which was problematic on the numerous restarts.

While is clutch gave him fits, Reed persevered and closed on the leaders during the final laps to score a fourth place finish in the marquee event for Legends competitors.

"I am really happy with how the weekend went," Reed stated. "We had a lot of fun and the car was spectacular all weekend. We would have really liked to win but given the clutch issues we had in the feature, we are thrilled to finish in fourth place."

Reed, a Frontier High School (Bakersfield) Honors student, has a busy week and weekend ahead as he prepares to take his SAT's on Saturday morning then catch a flight to Texas so he can compete Sunday morning in Legend race prior to the start of the NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Texas Motor Speedway.

"School is my priority and doing well on the SAT's is important," Reed said. "But the opportunity to race at Texas is pretty awesome so it is hard to pass up. I plan on studying engineering and high SAT scores is critical in my college applications."

Reed spent his summer vacation back in Charlotte, NC racing in the Legends Summer Shootout at Lowes Motor Speedway and will use that knowledge heading into to the event at Texas this weekend. "We learned so much about these cars this past summer that makes me a better driver," Reed offered. "I am really excited to visit Texas and race in front of the big crowd on hand for the Cup race."

While many young men his age struggle with direction, Reed is firmly grounded on his path to success. Guided by a championship winning car owner father (Dave Reed) and surrounded by corporate sponsors who believe in his potential, Austin Reed is one of the sports rising stars to keep on eye on as he pursues his racing dreams.
