Mother-Daughter Duo win Miss and Mrs. Black Louisiana US pageant

Advocacy Oriented Mother and Daughter to Represent Louisiana at National Competitions and Will Promote Breast Cancer Education and Responsible Pet Ownership Platforms in Underserved Communities Across State
 
Dec. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Crystal Brown-Tatum and her daughter Jaclyn Brown were recently crowned Mrs. Black Louisiana US and Miss Black Louisiana Teen respectively. The pair reside in Blanchard, Louisiana and plan to use the pageant titles to promote their platforms which have personally affected their family. The pair have a long history of turning tragedy into triumph.

Jaclyn is a senior in the Byrd High School Math and Science magnet program. A native of Houston, Texas, she plans to pursue Pre-Veterinary Science at a 4-year University. Her platform is encouraging responsible pet ownership after losing her beloved dog Cotton, a bichon frise, in a preventable vicious dog attack. Previous titles include 2010-2011 Miss Spirit of the Red Outstanding Teen and 1st runner-up in Miss Black Shreveport Teen. She received a commendation from President Barack Obama for her community service and served on the Army Reserve Teen Panel for two years where she was twice nominated for Military Child of the Year.

Crystal Brown-Tatum is the CEO of Crystal Clear Communications; an award-winning public relations firm founded in Houston,Texas in 2003. Among her many awards are   Texas Blazing Star from the Women's Chamber of Commerce of Texas, Woman on the Move award from Texas Executive Women, Emerging-10 award from Houston Minority Business Council, Chairman's Award from African-American Chamber of Commerce of Shreveport-Bossier, Most Powerful and Influential Woman in Louisiana from National Diversity Council and 40 under 40 award from The Houston Business Journal.

Additionally, she is the Founder of Sisters Network Shreveport and was named a 2011 Pink Power Mom from Brights Starts Corporation. A four year breast cancer survivor, Brown-Tatum has won numerous honors for her breast cancer advocacy and outreach including Survivor Legacy Award from Pink Door Organization and Unsung Hero from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She is the author of "Saltwater Taffy and Red High Heels: My Journey through Breast Cancer" which has received international acclaim from fellow survivors and was nominated for a NAACP Image Award.
