Ocean City Boardwalk, Salisbury drive-in featured in new limited-edition serigraph prints

New releases by silkscreen artist Erick Sahler depict Eastern Shore of Maryland icons in bold, colorful handmade pieces

Jan. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- SALISBURY, Md. — The world-famous Ocean City Boardwalk and an iconic Eastern Shore drive-in restaurant are featured in two new serigraph prints by Erick Sahler Serigraphs of Salisbury, Md.

“OC Boardwalk,” a 15-color screen-printed image, features two Ocean City institutions located at the corner of the Boardwalk and Wicomico Street. In the background is a giant fiberglass shark bursting through the facade of The Pier building. In the foreground are the brightly colored signs and checkered tiles of the Atlantic Stand restaurant (formerly the Alaska Stand). There are 115 prints in the edition and prices range from $75 to $145, based on matting and framing options.

“The corner of the Boardwalk and Wicomico Street is one of the most well-known intersections on the East Coast,” Sahler said. “The sights, sounds and smells combine to create a high-energy mix of excitement, fun and wonder. It is the beach version of Times Square.”

The drive-in print, the fourth in Sahler’s whimsical “GullFriends™” series, is a nine-color serigraph depicting 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air parked in front of the legendary Oaks Drive-In in south Salisbury. There are 70 prints in the edition. Matted prints are $25 and framed prints are $65.

“People of my parents’ generation still rhapsodize about the Oaks Drive-In. It was a real-life version Arnold’s on ‘Happy Days,’ and so many people have such great memories about hanging out there,” Sahler said.

All serigraphs by Sahler are printed by hand in his Salisbury studio using archival inks on acid-free paper.

Sahler, 45, is a Salisbury native who graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a bachelor’s degree in visual and performing arts. As a teenager, he studied with maritime artist C. Keith Whitelock. He has created commercial artwork for clients across the Eastern Shore since 1983, and his illustrations and cartoons appeared for more than 20 years in The (Salisbury, Md.) Daily Times.

Prints may also be purchased at the artist’s studio in Salisbury by calling 410-845-3774 or online at www.ErickSahler.com.
