Mahogany Ensemble Theatre Artistic Director to be Honored by African-American Chamber of Commerce

Angelique Feaster Evans to receive the 2012 Chairman’s Community Award for her community work and promotion of African-American stage performances and youth community programs
 
Jan. 31, 2012 - PRLog -- The Shreveport-Bossier African-American Chamber of Commerce (SBAACC) will host their 2012 Annual Meeting on Thursday, February 23, 2012, beginning at 6:30 pm at Sam’s Town Casino located at 315 Clyde Fant Parkway in Shreveport, LA. Seven extraordinary individuals will be honored for their community leadership and outreach including Angelique Feaster Evans; Founder and Artistic Director of the award-winning Mahogany Ensemble Theatre (MET).

“I am extremely honored and humbled to receive this award from a historic Chamber of Commerce”, says Feaster-Evans. “Mahogany Ensemble Theatre strives to make a dramatic impact within the cultural fabric of the community and serves as a catalyst between current social circumstances and the theatre. We look forward to building a relationship with the Chamber and increasing our audiences as well.”

Five individuals will receive the 2012 Chairman’s Award including Linda Biernacki (President, Fire Tech System); Troy Broussard( Regional Director External Affairs with AT & T); Paul Pratt (Director of Corporate Development- Chesapeake Energy) and Vita Riner (CEO of Vita Latina Magazine).

The mission of MET is to enlighten, enrich, and empower communities through entertaining African American theater experiences while exploring the common ground of humanity. MET was founded in 2005 by Feaster Evans after having performed in a cross-section of theatres and organizations throughout the Shreveport-Bossier and Ark-La-Tex areas. She recognized the need for a permanent seasonal offering of quality theatre of the African Diaspora.

In 2008, MET produced the first Biennial Southern Black Theatre Festival. Mahogany Ensemble Theatre stages at least four productions each season—two main stage plays, one youth musical, and one original play by a regional playwright.  MET is the 2011 State American Association of Community Theatres (AACT) Festival Winner and received top honors at the 2011 Regional AACT Festival including 1st Alternate to Nationals.
