By: Derick Shannon Boatland/Living Like a Pirate Chevrolet qualified 2nd for tonight's 200-lap Summer Showdown at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA. Gomez is taking a break from competition in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and SPEARS SRL Southwest Series to compete in this marquee event. Gomez has never raced a Late Model type car at Evergreen, though he has competed in one NASCAR K&N Pro Series back in 2008 where he finished in the top ten. Gomez was among the fastest cars during the past two days of practice pacing the field of 41 competitors. "I have the only perimeter car here this weekend and we are really good," Gomez offered. "This is a cool event and we hope to come out on top." By virtue of his qualifying mark, Gomez started on the pole of the second 25-lap qualifying race last night and won by 7/10 of a second over Joe Farre in the 20-car lineup. The top 14 from each qualifying race were locked into to tonight's race where Gomez will start on the outside front row alongside Jason Frazier. The balance of the field will be set by a non-qualifiers last chance race this evening. Gomez is coming off a dominating victory two weeks ago at his home track of Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho where he captured his third career win in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series. His busy racing schedule continues next weekend as he is back in the RMCS for an event July 7 at Rocky Mountain Raceways. Gomez has made 35 career starts in the NKNPS after making his series debut at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR on July 11, 2008. In his 34 career starts he has seven top five and 17 top ten performances. He has a career best finish of second place twice (Iowa & Phoenix). He has also made 18 starts in the SRL Southwest Tour with two victories and 15 starts in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series where he has scored three wins. Gomez Motorsports is owned by John Gomez, a successful farmer and businessman based in Idaho. The team is lead by crew chief Ron Copeland and supported by Craig Raudman, Blaine Bergem, Derek Copeland, Kyle Cattanach, Adam Wyse, and Mike Mulder.
