Follow on Google News | Flame Run Features: Steven HaganSteven Hagan's unique blown glass reflects his culinary experience
By: Flame Run Hagan’s work includes representations of the building blocks of any kitchen – eggs, onions, lemons and other fruits and vegetables – as well as culinary tools, measuring cups and even wine glasses that wobble. One piece recounts that most common of kitchen accidents – spilt milk. His show opens Sept. 7 and runs through Oct. 6. An opening-night reception begins at 5 p.m. with a demonstration at 7 p.m. "Hagan has a gift for highlighting the pure beauty in everyday items, and in his process succeeds in giving a life to these objects," said Flame Run gallery manager Tiffany Ackerman. Hagan, 34, grew up in Philadelphia where his mother was a chef, and he spent a lot of time in restaurant kitchens. Today he splits his time between the glass studio and a wine market he runs in the Cleveland area. The similarity between making glass and a meal attracted Hagan to glass work. “When you are blowing glass, there is a step-by-step process that you have to go through to get the final product,” said Hagan who has an MFA from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill.
