Flame Run Glass Art Exhibit: “Unsavory Characters” reflects Devyn Baron’s sense of humor

Show opens April 4, 2013 at Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery

March 7, 2013 - PRLog -- An alienated gang of produce, including a punked-out wild onion, a rotten apple and a steamed broccoli round out “Unsavory Characters,” Devyn Baron’s newest work at Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery.

The show opens April 4 and runs through May 31. A demonstration begins at 6:30 p.m. on April 5, Gallery Hop night.

“The anthropomorphic collection of blown and sculpted glass reflects Baron’s quirky sense of humor,” said Flame Run gallery manager Tiffany Ackerman.

“She has a very tongue-in-cheek point of view that shows up in all of her sculptures,” Ackerman said. “Her work is super fun and kitschy. It definitely puts you in touch with your inner goofball.”

The show also reflects Baron’s dual professional life: her staff position at Flame Run and her job as a sign and mural artist at Trader Joe’s. A vegetarian since she was 14, Baron said the vibrancy of fruits and vegetables naturally lend themselves to her art form. “The colors and textures scream to be made in glass,” she said.

Baron became interested in glass when she was a student at DuPont Manual High School’s visual arts program. She has an MFA from Illinois State University and a fine arts degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art.
